Head Over Heels is the 2018 musical story of love and acceptance, that combines an Elizabethan comedy, characters exploring gender identity and orientation, and the music of the all-female 80's rock band, The Go-Go's. MVCDS Theatre Director Brian Bozanich finds the idea of intentionally creating an environment where diverse stories are heard compelling for a theatre program. The production of Head Over Heels goes hand-in-hand with Maumee Valley’s mission of intentionally creating, supporting, and celebrating an environment where diverse learners, voices, stories, and experiences are heard in order to empower and educate the community members.
Head Over Heels explores issues of gender identity and orientation in a spirit of acceptance and love. The traditional romantic entanglements of a Shakespeare-style comedy befall LGBTQ characters too. Head Over Heels has a PG13 rating for some of its naughty humor. “The jokes are often incomplete on stage, but as the audience fills in the blanks, they will travel from shock to laughter,” Bozanich said.
